February 2018 Newsletter

2018 started off pretty rough. I attended back to back funerals for a close friend and family. Two weeks later my father passed away. I’m very grateful for your love, support and condolences during this difficult time.

Death is a painful reminder of life’s fleeting nature. YOLO (You only live once), so live it well. I share my affirmations with you, which I shared with my dad the last time I saw him: live and learn, live to learn, live to give, live to love and be loved, live to laugh, live to lead, live to forgive, live with a grateful and positive attitude, the right priorities, discipline, integrity and passion. My dad’s favorite karaoke song was My Way by Frank Sinatra. Here’s to you dad: you certainly lived life your way. Farewell and rest in peace..

Sincerely,

Abigail Signature

New "Ban the Box" Law, Effective 1/1/18, Prohibits Employers From Asking About Criminal History Prior to Conditional Offers of Employment

The California Fair Chance Act, also called "Ban the Box," went into effect on January 1, 2018. The new law applies to employers who employ 5 or more employees, and, in part, (1) prohibits employers from asking applicants about arrest records on employment applications; (2) prohibits employers from asking applicants about criminal convictions prior to making a conditional offer of employment; and (3) prohibits employers from considering, distributing, or disseminating information about prior arrests not leading to convictions when conducting background checks.

Please review California Government Code section 12952 for further information or contact one of the attorneys at JLG.
